An OSCE-supported summer school held from 10 to 20 July 2014 brought together 70 young students from both banks of the Dniester/Nistru River in the riverside town of Molovata Noua.

Students learned about the ecosystem of the Dniester/Nistru river, and participated in training courses and discussions on protecting the environment, sustainable development and empowering civil society. They also learned about how the Dniester/Nistru can be a source for confidence building between communities residing on both sides of the river. Moreover the Summer School was an opportunity for young people from both banks to meet and enjoy themselves.

“This river is seen in many ways as a dividing line, but with this Summer School we wanted to show that it can also unite,” said Maurice Dunand from the OSCE Mission to Moldova. “It is equally important that young people learn how to preserve this river for future generations.”

The Summer School was organized together with the non-governmental organization ECO-Tiras and co-financed by the National Endowment for Democracy.
