About

The aim of this training is to enhance the capacity of Athens Bar Association (ABA) lawyers to identify and respond to hate crimes and other bias-motivated incidents. The meeting is also meant to discuss the crucial role lawyers can play, especially in representing and providing legal counsel and guidance to hate crime victims.

As a result of this training, ABA lawyers will be better equipped to support hate crime victims by understanding their needs and thus tailoring their legal advice, consultation and representation.

The event is supported by the Racist Violence Recording Network (RVRN), whose members provide legal support to victims of hate crime.

Why is it important

Professional associations of legal practitioners, such as bar associations, are an important stakeholder in raising awareness of the social harm caused by hate crimes and in assisting hate crime victims to obtain legal redress.

Participants

The training will gather approximately 30 participants, including lawyers with a proven track record in human rights protection and hate crime victim support.

Background

This online event is part of ODIHR’s project ‘Turning Words into Action to Address Intolerance’ (WiA).

The meeting will be held in English, with interpretation into Greek.
