Overview

The OSCE project on mitigating money-laundering risks of virtual assets supports the OSCE participating States in addressing the growing challenges of digital finance. As cryptocurrencies and other virtual assets become part of the global economy, they also create new opportunities for financial crime, including money-laundering and sanctions evasion. This project helps governments strengthen oversight, enhance investigative capacities, and develop policies that balance innovation with security and transparency.

As one of the first international organizations to engage in this emerging field, the OSCE brings unique expertise and a comprehensive approach rooted in its long-standing work on anti-money-laundering and good governance. Through legislative support, practical training, and international co-operation, the Organization assists its participating States in building the skills and systems needed to prevent the criminal misuse of virtual assets. In doing so, the OSCE reaffirms its commitment to tackling contemporary security challenges and ensuring that the digital transformation of finance contributes to stability and peace across the region.
