Overview
Reporting accurate, timely news that is verified and correctly sourced is critical in regular times, but particularly so in times of crisis. Ukraine’s media community is negatively affected by the war, with rising security risks and dwindling sources of income for independent outlets. At the same time, efforts to spread propaganda and limitations imposed by national security considerations make the work of journalists even more challenging. In this situation, the ability of media professionals to keep the audience informed about important developments, together with high quality and independent journalism remain among key conditions for further democratic development of the country.
This project will support Ukraine in strengthening the culture for an ethical, accountable and self-regulating media sphere and promoting self-conscious consumption of information by the public.
To achieve this, the project will promote good practices of self-regulation among journalists, including dialogue on media standards and ethic in war, and ways to correct mistakes and address public complaints. The project will also support initiatives to educate audiences about principles of media literacy to enable people to avoid negative influence of propaganda or bad journalism.
This effort is part of the OSCE Secretariat Extra-Budgetary Support Programme for Ukraine implemented with extra-budgetary contributions from the Organization's participating States; see full list of the Programme's donors.
